种D was founded by brothers Andreas Tiik and Jaak Tiik, who were inspired by a wish to create a hotel concept with a new and bold design, comprised of guest rooms and aid facilities such as reception desk, restaurant, conference rooms, spa, gym, etc.
The 种D hotel rooms, which are the size of a small house, are delivered to the client as a complete set and building installation takes a maximum of 8 hours. Each 种D house is installed on six poles and needs three connection outlets for water, electricity and internet.

Modules that look similar on the outside but differ on the inside enable the hotel to grow according to need. At the same time, the Tiik brothers do not consider the accommodation business as the only way to use the 种D houses. Ideas for which the 种D houses would suit extend all the way from a sauna to a boutique, yoga room or music studio. The company is happy to create and test any tailormade solution with the client.

种D houses are designed and manufactured in Estonia, made from Estonian materials and include Estonian designer furniture.

The houses, each measuring two by six meters, blend equally well into nature and city space. Three sides of an 种D house are fully covered with Saint-Gobain MIRASTAR reflective glass fixed on a steel structure. The fourth side, which is the back wall, features thermally modified wood attached to a wooden frame.

MIRASTAR reflective glass can be considered the main characteristic of the 种D glass houses because it creates the illusion of the house blending into its surrounding environment.

MIRASTAR is a chrome-based reflective glass which can be used in interior and exterior building solutions. Reflective surfaces allow different lighting solutions and perspectives to be played with or interesting space solutions to be designed by creating the illusion of infinite space. Moisture-proof MIRASTAR reflective glass is suitable for use on the building exterior and for different indoor solutions. The glass can be tempered, laminated and curved. Tempered glass is approximately 5 times stronger and safer than regular glass; laminated glass remains intact when crushed, which means it does not collapse when broken and curved glass provides the designers and architects a chance to create round surfaces. Combining noise-insulating laminate and selective glass in the MIRASTAR glass, we get an excellent insulating and sound-proof glass that ensures quiet interior spaces even when a storm is raging outside.

Thanks to their bold and outstanding design the small 种D houses have been covered in several publications such as Dwell, Designboom, Uncrate, Inhabitat, HighsNobiety, Curbed, THE SPACES, Brick&Wonder, The Sydney Morning Herald, Fubiz, Design42Day and many more.

“From 1666, we began making mirrors as beautiful as those made in Venice and that supplied the whole of Europe and they were to become of a beauty and grandeur that has never been achieved elsewhere”
